Charles Barkley always manages to make the people watching Inside the NBA laugh and have a good time. But there are instances when he does things that make others feel weird, such as when he displayed how he cleans his spectacles.
On Inside the NBA in January 2022, there was a funny moment when the cameras showed Barkley cleaning his glasses. Most people use a cloth to clean their glasses, but Barkley did something different – he licked the glass before wiping it completely.
Filthy habit of Charles Barkley

Shaquille O’Neal, Ernie Johnson, and Kenny Smith found Barkley’s dirty habit amusing, and they all laughed about it. But Barkley made everyone laugh even more by playfully standing up for what he did.
“That’s how I clean my glasses. I need to be able to see. It’s more important for me to see than worry about hygiene. I can’t do anything without you filming it,” Barkley said.
It’s important to know that Barkley doesn’t only clean his reading glasses with his saliva. In April 2018, the camera crew on Inside the NBA caught him licking his phone to clean it. Once again, Barkley playfully defended his actions by saying that’s how he always does it.
Scientists from the University of Arizona have found that a phone is probably ten times dirtier than a typical toilet seat. Just the surface of the phone can have over 17,000 bacterial gene copies. So, it’s important to clean it regularly with a cleaning solution and not with saliva.
“Your phone is exposed to everything you touch,” the product manager of Whoosh! Adriana Catinari said.
“What’s on your hands is on your phone. Healthcare experts stress that washing your hands frequently with soap and water is the best defense against the spread of germs that cause sicknesses and viruses to spread,” she said.
Barkley has signed new contract with TNT
Charles Barkley hinted at retiring by age 60 or when his contract with TNT ends. He teased about joining LIV Golf but nothing happened. However, he signed a new deal with Turner Sports last October, worth around $158 million for 10 years, potentially reaching $317 million with future TV deals. During his NBA career, Barkley earned about $40.6 million.
Barkley is one of the most entertaining sports commentators to listen to. Inside the NBA’s other members have signed long-term contracts, so we can except to see them on television for a long time.
