NBA Insider Makes a Bold Prediction About When Victor Wembanyama Will Join The Lakers

The San Antonio Spurs selected Victor Wembanyama with the first overall pick in the 2023 NBA Draft. It was an obvious choice for the team. This is because Victor is considered as the most promising talent since LeBron James.

Even though both teams are happy to begin their partnership, Keyshawn Johnson from ESPN thinks that the 19-year-old player will eventually join the Los Angeles Lakers.

“Wembanyama is going to be brought up to speed with the Spurs before he becomes a Laker in the next five years. So, that’s how I am kind of how I am looking at it,” Johnson said via Kens5.

“In the end, he’ll have a purple and gold on because you know we target guys. We specifically look for certain guys. That’s what we do,” he added.

The Los Angeles Lakers have a reputation for going after famous players who are available for free. They have successfully signed greats such as Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Shaquille O’Neal, and LeBron James through free agency. Wembanyama has the ability to become the next big star in the league. Last season, he achieved an average of 21.6 points per game, 10.4 rebounds per game, 2.4 assists per game, 0.7 steals per game, and 3.0 blocks per game while playing for the Metropolitans 92.

Wembanyama loves the Spurs

The San Antonio Spurs are good at choosing and teaching tall players. They did this before with David Robinson and Tim Duncan. Now they can do the same with Wembanyama. He really likes the Spurs and said he was lucky when they got the first pick in the 2023 NBA Draft.

“San Antonio is synonymous with winning. On lottery night, when the Spurs got the No. 1 pick, I was feeling lucky that they got the pick as a franchise that has that culture and experience in winning,” Wembanyama said.

Wembanyama, like all of the league’s top young players, dreams to win an NBA championship. The Spurs are a fantastic fit for him.
