The Los Angeles Lakers have a new head coach, and he appears to be a perfect fit for the position. Darvin Ham, who was an assistant coach with the Milwaukee Bucks in 2021, will take over as head coach of the Lakers next season. Since winning the championship in 2020, LeBron James and the rest of the team haven’t played well. Ham, on the other hand, appears to be very upbeat about the team and the upcoming season.
The rookie head coach faces a difficult task, but he believes he can complete it and lead the Lakers to victory.
Is Darvin Ham a good fit for the Lakers?
Frank Vogel‘s last two seasons with the Los Angeles Lakers were a mixed bag. In 2020, the team went 52-19 and won the championship. The Lakers, on the other hand, finished seventh in the West with a 42-30 record the following year.
Since then, the team has gone 75-79, getting knocked out in the first round in 2021 and failing to make the playoffs in 2022.
Darvin Ham, on the other hand, won an NBA championship with the Milwaukee Bucks, which aided him in landing a new job. This was Ham’s second championship ring, having previously won one with the Detroit Pistons in 2004.
“I’m so ready for this challenge, man. I’m so ready to shut people up… I get to coach three first-ballot Hall of Famers and very talented young players. Work with a championship GM in Rob Pelinka and get to build a great, healthy roster with him, a versatile roster. Work with one of the most stories franchises in the world,” Darvin Ham recently said.
The LA Lakers’ head coach also stated that the team will work hard while also having a lot of fun.
Despite the fact that this is a difficult job, Coach Ham appears to be very excited and thrilled. The Lakers needed a fresh start, and their decision to hire Ham may have paid off.

What changes will the Lakers make?
Darvin Ham mentioned in the interview how he plans to build a versatile team with Pelinka. Given the Lakers’ current lack of versatility, this could indicate that the team will make significant changes soon.
While LeBron James, Anthony Davis, and Russell Westbrook are all excellent players, they may not mesh well. There have been numerous rumors about potential trades for Westbrook, and he will almost certainly be the first player dealt if things do not work out.
Last season, LeBron James, who turns 38 this year, led the team in scoring with 30.3 points per game. Although he is still a fantastic player, the Los Angeles Lakers should not rely solely on him for scoring.
The most serious issue, however, was one of health. Davis was out for more than half of the season, while James missed 26 games. Darvin Ham’s job will become much more difficult if the Lakers remain healthy.
