The IPL 2022 season will begin very soon. The Indian Premier League will enter its 14th season this year. As far as the cash-rich league is concerned, a few players may be taking the field for the final time.
Even after announcing their retirement from international cricket, several players have continued to play in the IPL. However, there comes a time when players must retire from T20 leagues such as the IPL. As a result, each season, several cricketers announce their retirement from the lucrative T20 league.
1. MS Dhoni
Dhoni is still one of the best captains and batsmen in the world. He is still one of the fittest cricketers in the world at the age of 40, and no one can question his work ethic. But it all comes down to his decision whether or not he wants to play in the IPL after 2022. Many expected him to hang up his boots after announcing his retirement from international cricket in 2020, but he promised to return.
2. Robin Uthappa
Since its inception in 2008, Robin Uthappa has been a part of the Indian T20 league. He’s played for as many as six different franchises. His most illustrious stint, however, was with the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) from 2014 to 2019. He played for the Rajasthan Royals (RR) in 2020 after 2019 and is now with the Chennai Super Kings. He’s already 36 and could retire very soon.
3. Wriddhiman Saha
Saha has been a consistent performer in the IPL over the years, despite his limited opportunities. He was signed by SRH after representing Punjab until 2017, and he continued to play for them until last season. At the mega auction, he was purchased by Gujarat Titans for the IPL 2022 season.
4. Dwayne Bravo
Bravo was a member of the Chennai Super Kings team that won the title last year after defeating the Kolkata Knight Riders. He was instrumental in his team’s victory. Prior to this, he was a member of CSK’s 2018 IPL winning team. Despite this, Bravo is 38 years old, and IPL 2022 may be his final season.
5. Ambati Rayudu
Chennai Super Kings selected Ambati Rayudu in the IPL 2022 auction. He was chosen for a whopping Rs. 9.75 crore. The battle for the right-handed batsman in the Chennai Super Kings, Sunrisers Hyderabad, and Delhi Capitals squads was intense. Rayudu, on the other hand, is nearing the end of his career, and CSK will want to build a core of younger players. Rayudu’s final IPL appearance could be in 2022.
