AB de Villiers, a former South African and RCB cricketer, is anticipating a classic Virat Kohli season in the present Indian Premier League (IPL). According to him, in the 15th edition of the cash-rich league, the former RCB captain would score more than 600 runs. Kohli appeared in fantastic form in the first game, striking an unbeaten 41 off 29 deliveries against PBKS.
De Villiers has announced his retirement from all forms of cricket, therefore RCB will be without him this season. The franchise has attempted to fill his spot at the top of the order by selecting Faf du Plessis, who has also been named captain.
AB de Villiers Predicts Virat Kohli to score 600 Plus Runs
Virat Kohli has scored 464 runs for the Royal Challengers Bangalore during the last three Indian Premier League seasons, including 466 runs in IPL 2019, 466 runs in IPL 2020, and 405 runs in IPL 2021, his final season as captain. Kohli holds the record for most runs scored in a single Indian Premier League season, scoring 973 runs in 16 games with four centuries and seven half-centuries at a strike rate of 152.03.
The RCB franchise, like all others, witnessed an overhaul in the squad this year, courtesy of the mega auction that preceded IPL 2022. AB de Villiers is one of the players who is still missing from the competition.
De Villiers stated that he would retire from cricket after the 2021 IPL season. Virat Kohli, Glenn Maxwell, and Mohammed Siraj were all retained by RCB. They then went all-in on Faf du Plessis in the IPL 2022 mega auction, paying INR 7 crores for him and selecting him their captain for the season in a lavish ceremony in Bengaluru.
The former RCB player has remained a staunch supporter of the franchise and made a bold prediction regarding Virat Kohli, his former colleague and close buddy.
“Everyone knows about Faf du Plessis coming in as captain. I think the most exciting thing for me is Virat not being captain and releasing a bit of the pressure, really just going out there and freeing up. I am expecting a very big season from Virat. I am thinking 600+ runs from him this year,” AB de Villiers said.
“He (Kohli) will be in Faf’s ear, but Faf is also very experienced as well. He has got a good cricketing training on him and he would allow Virat and some of the youngsters to just go and free up, and just enjoy the IPL. I don’t know what to expect (from RCB) but I expect some individuals to really rise in this IPL from the RCB setup,” De Villiers added.
