Stephen A. Smith slammed Ben Simmons on Friday’s episode of ESPN’s “NBA Countdown” as the three-time All-Star struggled through his first healthy season with the Brooklyn Nets.

Stephen A. Smith slams Ben Simmons

“Ben Simmons, it’s a sad situation. And I don’t mean this literally, because obviously he’s not doing it, but one would say, he is stealing money,” Smith said.

Simmons is currently making $35.4 million on a deal that will nearly double to $40 million in 2024–25, but he isn’t living up to that on the court. Through 34 games, Simmons is only averaging 7.5 points, 6.8 rebounds, and 6.3 assists per contest.

His expulsion in the third quarter of the Phoenix Suns’ loss on Thursday was one of the season’s low points.

“Ben Simmons got ejected last night on purpose. He didn’t want to play,” Smith added.

“Ben Simmons is stealing money. Ski mask and gloves, as a matter of fact,” Jalen Rose said.

The Nets defeated the Utah Jazz 117-106 on Friday to snap a four-game losing streak, thanks in large part to Kyrie Irving’s 48 points. Simmons just scored six points overall on 3-of-7 shooting with four turnovers, so he didn’t really make a difference.
