Clarifying WWE’s plans for Cody Rhodes at WrestleMania 40: putting rumors to rest

Recent indications have emerged, stating that WWE is considering Cody Rhodes as the headliner for WrestleMania 40, pitted against Gunther. Nevertheless, there seems to be a new development concerning this particular scenario.

Rhodes and Gunther have been cast as two of the most prominent figures within the company throughout this year. The American Nightmare headlined WrestleMania 39, showcasing his status as a top star, whereas the Austrian sensation delivered a commanding performance during his Intercontinental Championship bout against Sheamus and Drew McIntyre.

WWE’s plan for Cody Rhodes

Despite the widespread desire to witness an epic clash between the two, a recent report from BWE via Wrestling News has revealed that there have been no talks or discussions regarding a potential showdown between Rhodes and The Ring General at WrestleMania next year.

In January, fans were treated to a glimpse of a potential showdown between Cody Rhodes and Gunther at the Royal Rumble event. Both competitors found themselves as the last two men standing in the Royal Rumble Match, with The American Nightmare ultimately emerging victorious.

Rhodes’ next major match

Following their intense encounter at Backlash just a few weeks ago, the ongoing rivalry between The American Nightmare and The Beast shows no signs of reaching its conclusion. The two formidable opponents are scheduled to face each other once again this Saturday at Night of Champions. In an interview with Sportskeeda Wrestling’s Writing with Russo, Vince Russo, a former head writer for WWE, offered his prediction that the highly anticipated rematch between Cody Rhodes and Brock Lesnar could potentially end in a disqualification finish.

“This is a tough one. You’ve already beaten Cody, but I also know you gotta stretch because if Brock Lesnar goes over, then you could stretch it out because now it’s the best of three. That makes sense, and it buys them time. However, man, you just beat Cody with Roman. This is a tough one unless Brock wins by some DQ or count out or unless he wins some way, that’s not clean,” Vince Russo said.

Cody Rhodes will enter his encounter with Brock Lesnar at a compromised state of health following a brutal assault inflicted by Lesnar during this week’s episode of RAW.
