One of the fiercest in-ring adversaries of Brock Lesnar claims that Lesnar was to blame for what was undoubtedly the most unexpected setback of his WWE career.
The Beast Incarnate was defeated by Goldberg in the Survivor Series main event on November 20, 2016. The match lasted only 86 seconds, with the returning Goldberg winning with his signature spear and jackhammer moves.
Brock Lesnar requested to lose match against Goldberg
The WCW legend made an appearance on the most recent “Talk Is Jericho” podcast episode. He reminded his former colleague about Lesnar’s selfless wish for the match to end quickly.
“Brock’s the one that came up with the 90-second deal. You know me, I’m not gonna walk in and say, ‘I’ve been away 12 years, I’m gonna beat Brock in 60 seconds or 90 seconds, and then after you pay me I’m gone.’ It doesn’t work like that. So, I learned a lot from Brock and I learned a lot about who he is, about how creative he is, and about how unselfish he is,” Goldberg said.
He hadn’t participated in a WWE bout for more than 12 years when he made a comeback in 2016. Prior to that, he defeated Lesnar at WrestleMania 20 in his final in-ring match for the organization.

Chris Jericho’s opinion on Lesnar vs. Goldberg
Chris Jericho was among the most well-liked WWE superstars at the time of the 2016 Survivor Series.
Looking back, he appreciated how Brock Lesnar and Goldberg’s match ended unexpectedly. Lesnar was lauded for his intelligence in coming up with such a brilliant finish by the current AEW star.
“He tapped into the explosiveness of the Goldberg character. That 90 [seconds], nobody saw it coming, but it was exactly what it should have been. It was amazing. It resurrected Goldberg as much as it helped Brock create a new opponent,” Jericho said.
