”It just never panned out” – Triple H reveals one of the biggest regrets of his career involving a feud with top star

One of the biggest regrets in his career, according to WWE Chief Content Officer Triple H, was not getting to engage in a feud with Rey Mysterio.

Despite spending a lot of time together in WWE, the two never crossed paths because they were always on different brands. Hunter chose to put up his wrestling boots this year owing to health concerns, although Rey is still a competing wrestler. At WrestleMania earlier this year, he made his pro wrestling retirement a formality.

Hunter recently confessed in an interview with LadBible that he always intended to engage in a rivalry with the WWE veteran but that it never materialized.

“I’ve thrown it out there a lot over the years of like, ‘Hey, what if Rey and I did something,’ But he was always on SmackDown [while] I was on Raw or vice versa. It just never panned out but he’s always a guy that I always thought ‘Man, I would have loved to have gone and done something big with him,’” Triple H said.

The Rock approached for a match at WWE WrestleMania

One of the best athletes to ever enter the squared circle is Triple H. He competed against some of the top WWE talents throughout the course of his illustrious 20-year career and won numerous championships. The Game’s wish to compete against The Rock at the Show of Shows, however, was not realized. The two were excited to face off at the Show of Shows, but owing to The Great One’s hectic schedule, the duel was unable to take place.

In the same interview, Triple H disclosed that The Rock had approached him about a match and was interested in a final confrontation between the two.

“He came to me and was like, ‘Hey dude, I got one more in me. I wanna do it with you. I want you and I to have that WrestleMania moment and let’s do it at WrestleMania.’ It turned out that it was for the following year. So we had done this video for it and we were ready to go for it and somewhere along the time of that year, his movie career sort of changed. He was like, ‘Oh man, I’m not gonnna be able to do this, the timing just doesn’t work out right and I can’t pass up this other opportunity.’ No problem. But that’s really where we were headed,” he said.

At WrestleMania 31, the seeds for a feud between the two were laid. For the purpose of defeating Triple H and Stephanie McMahon, The Rock entered the ring alongside Ronda Rousey. However, due to The Great One’s hectic schedule, WWE was unable to schedule a match.
