Dominik Mysterio won his first WWE championship all by himself and shocked everyone. He defeated Wes Lee, who is well-known in NXT, to win the new NXT North American Champion. This happened in the most recent episode of the show.
Dominik’s surprising victory made fans think of a specific episode of NXT where Solo Sikoa beat Carmelo Hayes to become the champion, just like Dominik did. But later, the Street Champion was taken away from Solo Sikoa by Shawn Michaels himself.
Dominik Mysterio allowed to keep his title

A fan on Twitter asked why Dominik Mysterio got to keep his title but Solo Sikoa didn’t. The answer is simple. Solo wasn’t supposed to be in his match against Melo, so his win didn’t count.
When Solo Sikoa went to the main roster and then challenged for the title then won it, he had to vacate it. But Dom can just win it when he has been on the main roster. Idk just make it make sense tbh. #WWENXT pic.twitter.com/dwKkm9eNQI

Solo actually brought the North American Championship to SmackDown on September 16, 2022. He proudly showed off his title while standing in the ring with The Bloodline. That was the only time when fans watching WWE saw the faction having seven titles together on TV.
Mysterio’s first title defense

After defeating Wes Lee in the main event of NXT this week, Dominik celebrated his victory with The Judgment Day. Dom won by pinning Lee, who was distracted and attacked by Rhea Ripley using her world title belt.
Dominik will defend his title against Mustafa Ali at The Great American Bash 2023. Mustafa Ali was initially supposed to face Wes Lee for the title, but since Wes lost, Dominik replaced him. The event, NXT: The Great American Bash, will happen at the H-E-B Center in Cedar Park, TX, on July 30, 2023.
