WWE Legend Criticizes Lazy Effort in Roman Reigns vs Jey Uso Match at SummerSlam

Roman Reigns defended his WWE Universal Championship and position as Tribal Chief in the SummerSlam 2023 fight against Jey Uso. Eric Bischoff was unhappy with the way the match was set up and discussed it on his show 83 Weeks.

Jey Uso backstabbed Roman Reigns to support his brother, Jimmy Uso, and they both left their group, The Bloodline. Jey challenged Reigns for the top title and leader role in The Bloodline. He almost won in their special fight, but Jimmy’s surprising betrayal helped Reigns stay as the champion.

Eric Bischoff said he wouldn’t have organized the fight as a “Hardcore Match.” He accepted he might be mistaken, but he said such choices are often made when the creators want a simple solution. Bischoff stated that the fight wasn’t well-arranged and well-planned.

“I would not have made it basically a Hardcore match. I’ve said this before, and I know people are going to disagree with me, I am sure some of the people that are actually in the industry and not as*holes like me and you who are sitting on the outside talking about it. But that was an easy way out of the match. That match was an afterthought, That match was not a well-constructed, well-thought-out, well-conceived match,” he said.

Bischoff also talked about how WWE uses outside objects and special tricks only when they don’t have a good creative plan for the fight. He said it’s like hoping fans will like moments that use things like ladders, tables, or chairs.

“Anytime you go to gimmicks and hardcore shit, like tables and chairs and lions and elephants and whatever other gimmick you can possibly come up with. Basically, what you are saying is that you don’t have any good ideas. So we are going to do this instead because hopefully people will just like ladders and tables and chairs. That’s my opinion, folks. I am welcome to it. But to me, it was a lazy effort, in my opinion,” he added.

Bischoff talked about the idea of Roman Reigns possibly being in a big team match with six people, including some who used to fight him. They asked Bischoff if Reigns should join Jimmy Uso and Solo Sikoa to fight against Kevin Owens, Sami Zayn, and Jey Uso.

Bischoff discussed Sami Zayn’s return and how it will improve The Bloodline storyline. However, he believes WWE should not include Roman Reigns in the six-man fight unless the story in the program supports it. Bischoff suggested that Zayn could be utilized to encourage Jey Uso.
