Ronda Rousey is going through a bad time. Vince Russo believes her WWE career is over because she wasn’t entertaining enough.
In a recent episode of Sportskeeda’s The Wrestling Outlaws, they talked about Tamyra Mensah-Stock, who won a gold medal in the Olympics. They think she could become a female version of Kurt Angle. However, Vince Russo said that being a talented athlete doesn’t automatically mean success in WWE. He stressed that wrestlers also need to be entertaining and have charismatic personalities to do well in professional wrestling.
If a WWE Superstar can’t grab the audience’s attention with their character and talking skills, their athletic abilities in the ring won’t matter at all.
Vince Russo on Ronda Rousey
Russo talked about Ronda Rousey and said that even though she was one of the best Judokas and MMA fighters ever, she didn’t have that special something in professional wrestling. Vince said that Rousey’s difficulties lately were partly because WWE was not showing her in the right way on TV.
“These are all legit blue-chip athletes. Bro, being an athlete is one thing; being an entertainer is something completely different. I’m going to go back to the ‘it’ factor. Kurt Angle was an entertainer from day one. He had that in him. Bro, if you don’t have that, Ronda Rousey is kind of stalled. That’s kind of a part of it. I think a lot of it with her, you know, it’s the writing and the presentation, and Chris, I’m eager to watch her on RAW because I am a fan of hers and really want to see what they are doing with her,” Russo said.
Mark Henry was used as an example by Vince Russo. He stated that history has shown that even the Henry had to change his character several times before achieving success.
“But being a great athlete doesn’t mean you’re going to be a great entertainer. I mean, what was Mark Henry before Se*ual Chocolate? That’s the thing, bro. It is not a gimme just because you’re an Olympic Champion,” he said.
